Merit Scholarships from AHIMA

The following scholarship is offered by FORE (Foundation of Research and Education) of AHIMA to AHIMA members who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in health information management or health information technology.

Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 and are awarded based on assessment of the following criteria:

  • Grade point average and academic achievement
  • Volunteer and work experience
  • Commitment to the HIM profession
  • Suitability to the HIM profession
  • Quality and suitability of references provided
  • Clarity of application

At the time of application, students must:

  • be members of AHIMA
  • be accepted for enrollment in an approved associate or baccalaureate program of study or a graduate program in a field related to HIM
  • be taking a minimum six hours per semester or eight hours per quarter in pursuit of a degree
  • have a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • have at least a semester remaining at the time of award, as we do not award scholarships to students who will have already graduated at the time we give the award out (award date is August, 2008)

FORE also offers educational loans to AHIMA members pursuing degrees in HIM or certificates in coding specialist programs affiliated with regionally accredited colleges or universities.
